Fluoride: Friend or Enemy?
It is easy to say that fluoride is helpful. After all, the government says it is and that we should put it in our water. Aqua Maine does so. It would be nice to think that no one would put a toxic substance in your water.
Old-timers will remember when fluoridation was first encouraged by the government. (It was about the same time they insisted that all VA homes MUST be painted with lead paint to qualify for a loan.) Those who opposed fluoridation were attacked as anti-American, or as opposing progress.
A fluoride test in Kingston, and Newburgh, New York suggested the usefulness of fluoride but could not later be duplicated and was finally considered a hoax. Many European countries have outlawed the use of fluoride in their water.
Fluoridation has a mild cavity-fighting effect on baby teeth, no clear effect on adult teeth, no effect on gum disease, and its use correlates with cancer, arthritis, and osteoporosis.
Perhaps you have the aluminum lobbies to thank for convincing the government to dispose of their waste products in your mouth. Unless, of course, someone just wants us unhealthy.
My advice is: Do not eat garbage. Avoid fluoridated water and do not use toothpaste that contains fluoride.
